Our Favourite Children's Books

11.10.2019

With the colder months upon us we are spending more time indoors, and nothing is better than curling up in bed with a good book!
Emilia has always loved books and now that she is 20 months old we have gotten into a routine of reading in her big girl bed every night before she goes to sleep. You can tell that she really enjoys siting on the bed and she will grab her own book to read alongside mommy. Even though the work days are long and I sometimes find myself so exhausted and tired, we still make time for story time, this is our time we share together.

Because you are going to be reading the same ones over and over again they will get to be repetitive, so it is important that we have books that we both can enjoy. Some of the different things I look for when picking books are the story lines, I like books that are rhyming and flow well so that I can sing them to her.  Other things I look for are the illustrations, this is a big one for me because of my artsy background and Emilia can’t read yet herself so having books with a variety of different illustration medium types such as hand drawn watercolour or pencil crayon, computer illustrated and touch and feel books. Aside from the classics here are fifteen of our favourite books!!

Fifteen of our Favourite Children's Books:

There are so many wonderful books out there and these are just a few of our all time favourites we love reading again and again! I hope you enjoy these books as much as we do and it add's a little fun to your nighttime routine!

  2. Hi Erika, Book reading with kids is a really great way to spend quality time with kids. You utilized this pandemic time in a very useful way. A study was made in Rhode Island Hospital to compare two groups of eight months old – one group was read to often as babies, while the other was not. It was shown that those who were read to have their “receptive” vocabularies increased 40 percent since babyhood, while the non-reading group increased by only 16 percent. Although since a very long time bedtime stories reading ritual was there in most of the countries, the advent of the digital age ruined that. Now people came to realize again that how beneficial it was. Your post is going to motivate many. Thanks for sharing a list of books.
